Foundations in Tuberculosis Course

Description: This introductory level course provides a foundational understanding of tuberculosis (TB) for individuals who are brand new to the topic. Participants will learn about the basics of TB, including its causes, symptoms, transmission, and prevention strategies. The course is designed to be accessible to beginners with no prior knowledge of TB.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize epidemiological factors related to tuberculosis in the United States.
  • Explain the key characteristics of how tuberculosis spreads from one person to another.
  • Explain how an individual becomes infected with tuberculosis bacteria.
  • Differentiate between latent tuberculosis infection and active tuberculosis disease.
  • Examine the methods used in diagnosing tuberculosis infection and disease.
  • Identify treatment regimens for latent tuberculosis infection and active tuberculosis disease.
  • Identify treatment regimens for active tuberculosis disease.
  • Outline the key components of tuberculosis infection control measures to prevent the spread of tuberculosis.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals in the control of tuberculosis within the community.

Target Audience: Healthcare professionals with no or limited understanding of TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
