Nurses Week: TB Nursing Excellence

In honor of Nurses Week, we are proud to recognize outstanding nurses who demonstrate excellence in tuberculosis care, education, and public health practice. Their dedication, compassion, and leadership play a critical role in advancing TB prevention and improving patient outcomes in their communities.

Jessica Linzmeier B.S.N., R.N.

Public Health Nurse

Marathon County Health Department

"Jessica is a nurse who goes to great lengths to not only ensure her client’s tuberculosis needs are met, but also that the client feels well cared for in every aspect. While providing tuberculosis care, Jessica becomes someone the client and family can depend on for all questions, to work through any challenges that arise, and to sit with them to explain all of the gritty details. Not only does Jessica provide excellent care to those in the community, but she is also a wonderful mentor for other nurses."

Monica Cox, B.S.N., R.N.

Clinical Program Coordinator

Benton County Public Health

"Monica takes the time to educate people, make sure they get tested and treated, and help them feel comfortable through what can be a scary process. She truly cares about the people she works with and goes the extra mile to ensure no one falls through the cracks. The work she does makes a real difference, even if most people don’t see it."

"Monica is a hard worker who always goes above and beyond. No matter what life throws at her, she is always willing to help and take care of others. She is an amazing nurse and does so much for the organization without asking for anything in return. She deserves the world and more!"

Amy Hill, B.S.N., R.N.

TB Program Manager

Oklahoma State Department of Health

"Amy has dedicated more than two decades to tuberculosis excellence, beginning her career as a county health nurse and then leading the state as the TB manager for the great state of Oklahoma. In this role, she oversees the state's TB grant management and nursing protocols, guiding Oklahoma's unique centralized model of care, in which all patients are managed through the State Department of Health. Throughout her career, Amy has attained significant expertise, consistently meeting challenges head-on to best serve Oklahoma's diverse population. Most recently, she achieved her BSN, all while her state transitioned to a new computer system and she trained three of six new team members in the central office. Congratulations on a job well done, Amy!"

Meghan Peterson, M.P.H., B.A.N., R.N.

Public Health Nurse II

Washington County Public Health

"Despite being relatively new to this role, Meghan has rapidly distinguished herself as an invaluable member of the tuberculosis team with Washington County Public Health. She consistently demonstrates a high level of performance and has quickly become a trusted resource and content expert for colleagues. She skillfully integrates her prior experience in oncology into her current practice, leading with empathy, enhancing her clinical judgment, and strengthening her approach to tuberculosis case management.

Notably, Meghan has created lasting improvements by developing guidelines that give all team members access to standardized protocols for effective case management, documentation, and client outreach, while also strengthening working relationships with clinical partners. She was also integral in launching asynchronous video DOT as a revolutionary tool that expanded the team’s ability to provide equitable medication administration options to clients and significantly improved team efficiency.

She maintains a high degree of professionalism and composure when navigating complex and challenging cases, contributing to both effective client care and team confidence. Meghan is a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and passionate TB public health nurse. Most importantly, she is a true advocate for every client to receive the best care possible and treats each individual with the grace, compassion, respect, and dignity they deserve."
